Christopher M Thompson, CFP, CRPC

Chris Thompson has been a Financial Advisor serving our community for the last 27 years. He obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in 2004 and the CHARTERED RETIREMENT PLANNING COUNSELOR™ designation awarded by the College for Financial Planning in 2011. In 2018, Chris successfully met the required requirements, completed the advanced portfolio management coursework and training, and is authorized to manage client portfolios as a Fundamental Choice Portfolio Manager. Chris is also an NFLPA Registered Player Financial Advisor; this is not an endorsement of the NFLPA.*
For five years now in a row, he has attained Premier Advisor status with Wells Fargo Advisors. The Premier Advisor distinction is held by a select group of Financial Advisors within the Firm as measured by three or more of the following: length of service with the firm, completion of educational components, business production and professionalism.
Chris worked for 19 years with Merrill Lynch before joining Wells Fargo Advisors. Before entering this business, he proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant on the USS W.S. SIMS (FF-1059) in Mayport and received the Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement medals. He is a three generation Navy Veteran.
Chris was born in Memphis, TN, raised in Chattanooga, TN, and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1987 on a four year Navy ROTC scholarship. His received a double major in Math and economics and met his wife at Vanderbilt while she majored in Civil Engineering. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1980 and his sons are fourth generation Eagle Scouts in his family. Chris has been happily married to Stephanie Bures of St Petersburg for the last 32 years, and they have five lovely children - John (23), Stephen (21), Mary (18), James (15), and Mark (8).
Chris is actively involved in many organizations: Board Member with Boy Scouts of America North Florida District, past Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 473 for over 15 years, current den leader, past president for the Vanderbilt Alumni Club, past Chairman of the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Committee, member of Navy League and Naval Order of the United States, member of National Eagle Scout Association, active youth coach in Creeks Athletic Association, fourth degree for Knights of Columbus at St Joseph Catholic Church, member of the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians, member of local chapter of FIPCA, volunteer for Ink! who is a not-for-profit who directly supports teachers and students in St Johns County School District, and awarded the Paul Harris Fellow (this honor was bestowed by Rotary International as a result of Philanthropic and/or Community efforts).
His passion away from office is coaching youth sports for the last 17 years where he spends a lot of time teaching and coaching young youth for no fee. He has served as manager and coached Soccer, Flag football where his teams has won three super bowls, middle school softball where his team won a Catholic league championship, junior developmental football (JDL), softball where his team won a state and regional championship, and baseball where his teams have won over 1000 games including six state championships. He is proud to have coached and mentored over 5,000 kids over the last 17 years.
