Sustainable & Responsible Investing

Sustainable and Responsible Investing

I grew up on a farm where sustainability of the land was a necessity.  Stewardship of natural resources was critical, a given.  This foundation has carried over to my professional work and belief that I am more than advisor, I am a steward of my clients’ financial lives.  Effective stewardship means a commitment to you to be intentional about incorporating your values into your investments.  I understand your desire to make a difference beyond personal wealth generation.

Align investments to your values

Investing is more than a financial decision, investments also reflect your values, your vision and your legacy for future generations.  I recognize the challenges individuals, institutions and families face as they explore ways to align their investments with their values and will guide you through a process to address those challenges.  My process seeks to facilitate a conversation to help identify your values, determine which causes you are most passionate about and how you want to impact those causes.

Invest with intention

Responsible investing landscape is always evolving.  Historically, Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) focused on excluding broad industries or specific companies.  Today our focus is on integrating environmental, social and corporate governance, (ESG), considerations into all our investment analysis. I seek to maintain awareness of new technologies, trends and developments in the SRI investing landscape to identify new opportunities.

My role and commitment is to provide research, clarification and guidance, so that together we match your personal goals to social, sustainable and responsible investments.

An investment's social policy could cause it to forgo opportunities to gain exposure to certain industries, companies, sectors or regions of the economy which could cause it to underperform similar investments that do not operate under a social policy. Risks associated with investing in ESG-related strategies can also include a lack of consistency in approach and a lack of transparancy in manager methodologies. A socially responsible investing style may shift in and out of favor.

Portfolios with a purpose

I source investment strategy research from a number of independent, third parties who specialize in sustainable and responsible investing.  Institutions like US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment and PRI: Principles for Responsible Investment.

I also collaborate with Wells Fargo Investment Institute (WFII), Wells Fargo Wealth Management (WFWM) and Wells Fargo Asset Management (WFAM) as well as other Wells Fargo affiliates to develop customized, socially responsible investment and wealth management strategies.
