The Holzapfel Investment Group is led by lifelong residents of Western Maryland serving clients in 35 states. Our commitment and experience has helped see them through their financial milestones, and we are especially proud of our exceptional, award-winning client service. Meet the team:
James N. Holzapfel

James N. Holzapfel

    • Managing Director - Investments
    For more than 45 years, Jim has earned the confidence and trust of clients by addressing their complex financial needs.  Jim is particularly adept at helping clients plan for the next stage of their lives, often finding ways to replace earned income with retirement income. He applies sound financial principles and qualified fiduciary practices to service individuals, business entities, retirement plans and foundations.

    Jim earned a degree from the University of Maryland School of Business and completed the three-year Securities Industry Institute® (SII) at the Wharton School of Business. Jim joined Kidder, Peabody & Co., a predecessor firm to Wells Fargo Advisors, in 1971. Based in Hagerstown, Maryland, Jim has been a long-time supporter of the community.  Board affiliations include leadership in area charitable foundations, committee designations and historical enterprises.  Jim and his wife have four children; his sons Richie and Tad are partners in the Holzapfel Investment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. Jim enjoys playing golf and tennis.

      • First Vice President - Investment Officer
      Richie's career in the finance industry began in 2010.  After two years as a registered associate with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Richie became a financial advisor with the Holzpafel Invesment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors in 2012.  In 2017 Richie obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, and was named to the 2017 Forbes list of Top 500 Millennial Advisors* and the 2018 Forbes Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors.**

      Richie received his B.A. in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College in central Virginia where he was part of a nationally ranked tennis team and led fundraising efforts during his senior year.  Active in the local community, Richie is a member of The Greater Hagerstown Committee, a board member of The Arc of Washington County, and a 2015 graduate of Leadership Washington County.  Richie and his wife live in Hagerstown and have two sons and a golden retriever.  In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, listening to music, and playing golf and tennis.

      Tad Holzapfel

        Prior to joining the team in September of 2017, Tad spent three years as a performance analyst with Cambridge Associates, LLC in Arlington, VA.  Tad graduated with academic distinction from the Virginia Military Institute with a BA in Economics and Business and was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon – International Honor Society in the field of Economics. 

        Tad is Series 7 and 66 registered and is currently studying for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification.

        Tad and his wife Stephanie live in Hagerstown. During his free time, Tad enjoys spending time with his wife and friends, staying active, and supporting the Maryland Terrapins.
        Karen L. Dattilio

          • Senior Registered Client Associate
          A veteran of the securities industry, Karen joined the team in 1986 and manages client service to an exceptional standard.  Karen is highly skilled in working with clients and addressing their needs, and is also adept at business development and administration.

          In 2014, Karen was named an Elite Service Professional by Wells Fargo Advisors, a distinction given to a select group of Client Associates who meet or exceed the firm’s high standards as measured by service, respect, integrity, and teamwork.  Prior to 2014, Karen was recognized in each of the previous three years by the firm for her professionalism as a Distinguished Service Professional.

          Karen holds associate degrees in accounting and marketing from Hagerstown Business College, and is Series 7 and 66 registered. Karen and her husband have two children.
          Kristen Thomas

          Kristen Thomas

            • Client Associate
            Kristen joined the team in 2016 and assists in all aspects of client service and administration.  Having worked in the luxury hotel industry and as a Special Assistant in Nashville and Washington, D.C., Kristen developed an exceptional client service standard that she applies to her work today.

            Kristen graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.  She and her husband live in Boonsboro.
