Hello, this is James Mayer, Branch Manager, from the Huffman Mayer Paolo Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors.

Think back to the last time something made you angry.

What did it feel like?

Did your pulse quicken?

Did your face get red?

Did you notice that your breathing became rapid and shallow?

That’s all perfectly normal, of course.

That’s the parasympathetic nervous system kicking in.

It happens to most people when they get angry, stressed, or scared.

And it’s really good at helping us run away or fight back.

You know what all that response isn't good at?

Calmly and coolly addressing the problem in a way that actually solves it.

It turns out that, most of the time, you don’t actually need to run from problems or fight your way out of them.

Most of the time, you just need to take a few minutes to calm yourself down before you respond.

Don’t send the email right away.

Don’t fire back at an insult over the phone.

Take five.

Make up an excuse if you have to.

Find a quiet place, and then just sit there and try to notice your breathing.

Whatever you do, just put some space between the stimulus and your response.

You’ll be amazed at how well that works.

We always want to talk with you.  If you feel you know someone who would enjoy this video please feel free to send them the link.

As always stay happy, safe, and healthy and hopefully we will see you very soon.
