Experience

I have always had a keen interest in economics and finance. Growing up in India, I went to school and college to study economics, corporate finance, statistics, and mathematics.

After coming to the United States in 2003, I earned a PhD in Economics in 2008. I was a Professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin (Eau Claire) from 2008-2017.

After moving to Minnesota (Saint Paul) in 2017, I worked as a labor market researcher for the Minnesota State government.

In 2021, I made a major career shift to financial services in the Twin cities metro. After going through required licensing exams, I started my career in financial services, moving up through the ranks from client service associate (2021) to financial advisor (2024).

In 2024, I earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER^® certificate designation, followed by the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC^®) in 2025. Despite the shift from higher education to financial services, I remain a passionate educator and enjoy the process of teaching and learning about finance.

Personal life

I was born and raised in Kolkata, India. At the age of 27, I came to the USA on a Student Visa to study for my PHD in Economics at City University in New York.  

I am a single mom and reside in Woodbury, MN with my daughter Chandrima, born in 2014.  In my spare time, I love to go for runs in the wooded trails of Woodbury and Lake Elmo. I also visit horse barns and adore horses, cats and dogs living together peacefully. I also enjoy reading and traveling.

My favorite trip thus far has been to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  I am also a big fan of live music and truly enjoy going to music cities like Nashville, especially the Grand Ole Opry.  My favorite country singer currently is Carrie Underwood.
