Background and experience
John earned his associate’s degree from Ferrum College and a bachelor’s degree from Radford University. John is well-equipped to provide his clients with sound financial advice to pursue their goals. He obtained the CFP® designation from the College of Financial Planning. John holds his Series 4, 7, 8, and 63 securities registrations and, in addition, he has applicable insurance licenses for Virginia and North Carolina. He has been in the business for over 30 years with Wells Fargo Advisors and the previous firms since 1986.
Away from the office
Dedicated to serving his community, John has been active in his church, served as a board member for community organizations including the United Way and has been a past president and vice-president of the Optimist Club.
John currently resides in Chesterfield County with his wife Sherry, and their children John Richard Jr., Brooke, Casey, Skylar and the family pug, Casanova. John Richard Jr., Brooke and Casey all graduated from Liberty University and Skylar is currently attending West Virginia University. When John is not reading financial material, he enjoys traveling, hiking, snow skiing, golfing and spending time with his family.

As your life circumstances change, so must the investment strategies we use to stay on course toward meeting your objectives. That is why Tanner works with you, one on one, to design investment strategies targeted to your specific needs and goals.
Tanner is a graduate of Hampden Sydney College with a degree in Mathematical Economics. He obtained the RICP®, (Retirement Income Certified Professional™, designation from the American College of Financial Services.) Tanner is also a Qualified Plan Financial Consultant (QPFC.) Prior to joining Wells Fargo Advisors, he was a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones in Waynesboro, VA.
Away from the office
Tanner is a member of the Colonial Heights Rotary. Tanner lives in Richmond with his golden retriever, Goose, and he is looking forward to becoming active in the community, and enjoying his favorite hobbies, golf and tennis.
