A financial advisor who earns this designation has demonstrated skill in analyzing and developing personal, long-term financial strategies. The qualification process, comprehensive array of advice, and skill-based approach distinguish CFP® practitioners from other professional advisors, who typically focus on only one area of a client’s financial life.
A CFP® professional has completed hundreds of hours of rigorous courses and examinations offered by various colleges and universities across the country. These courses are followed by a 10-hour comprehensive exam administered by the CFP Board of Standards.
The AAMS® designation is a professional designation awarded by the College for Financial Planning. The training covers several topics, such as the asset management process; investors, policy, and change; risk, return, and investment performance; asset allocation and selection; investment strategies; and taxation of investment products. It also covers investment opportunities for individual retirement, insurance products of investment clients, estate planning strategies, and regulatory and ethical issues.
Financial professionals are required to complete a self-study program, pass an exam, and agree to comply with a code of ethics in order to earn this designation.
