Bob is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and a graduate of Lake Charles High School. He attended LSU for one year, then transferred to Tulane University, where he received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1960. He received his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1962 and started this investment practice in June of that year, just a month before Houston was born.
Since leaving college he was employed as a Financial Adviser with Wells Fargo Advisors and predecessor firms Wachovia Securities, Prudential Securities, Thomson McKinnon and Kohlmeyer & Co. He had the same work (and home) phone number from 1962 through his retirement at the end of 2020.

He presently serves on the board of directors of First Federal Bank of Louisiana, and is Chairman of the Investment Committee.
He has a zest for life, which has been experienced in many different ways. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro twice, and had the pleasure of seeing all four of his kids reach the summit as well. He has run the bulls in Pamplona, Spain on a number of occasions. He has sky dived, scuba dived, hang glided, bungee jumped, run two marathons, and lived to tell about them all. And yes, he even went to the Nevada desert for Burning Man with all of his kids and grandkids in tow for his 80th birthday celebration. Furthermore, he attends most LSU football games including four national championships, and has made it to at least one Kentucky Derby, Indianapolis 500, Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Final, College Basketball Final Four, and a number of boxing national championships. He went to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Sydney, and has been to Formula One Grand Prix races in five different countries.
