Michael is dedicated to cultivating relationships with the goal of providing advice, guidance, and resources to help clients succeed financially and work toward their life goals. Whether you are in the early stages of building wealth or transitioning into retirement, my focus is helping clients through each stage of their financial life.

Background and experience

Michael has been in the Banking and Financial Service industry for over 35 years, throughout his career he has gained insight into full balance management allowing him to take a more holistic and balanced approach when it comes to serving the needs of clients and navigating the ever-changing markets and economy.

He began his career in 1989 with Wachovia Bank in Retail Banking before transitioning into Business Banking and Commercial Lending where he developed skills in cultivating relationships, understanding balance sheets, and cash flow management. After relocating to Pinehurst, he transitioned into financial services with Morgan Stanley in 1999 where he gained his investment knowledge and understanding of investment planning. After several years of operating as an independent advisor, he returned to Wells Fargo Advisors in 2009 to manage the Pinehurst Branch and continue the growth of his financial practice.

Michael graduated from North Carolina State University in 1989, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management with a concentration in Finance. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and served as Student Government Senator for 2 years.

Away from the office

Active in the Community, Michael has served as Board Chair for the Episcopal Day School, Session Member and Stewardship Chair for Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ambassador for Sandhills Chamber of Commerce, and active member of the Sandhills Kiwanis Club.

He and his wife, Pam, have been residents of Moore County for over 25 years where they raised their 3 children Courtney, Carlin, and Taft. They enjoy traveling, playing tennis, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.

Background and experience

For over 30 years, Mike has helped clients address their financial concerns and develop strategies by focusing on each individual’s specific needs. With extensive experience throughout major shifts in the markets, Mike has dedicated his career to delivering the personalized investment planning services his clients deserve.

Mike began his career as a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch in Charlotte, NC in 1992 where he developed his fundamental investment knowledge. He joined Interstate Johnson Lane, a predecessor firm of Wells Fargo Advisors, in Sanford, NC in 1995 to take a team approach to providing personalized financial advice for individuals and families. In 2015, Mike moved his practice from the Sanford, NC office of Wells Fargo Advisors to the Pinehurst office to further his professional development and explore previously unavailable opportunities.

Mike has a passion for helping others. He served as the president of the Helping Hand Clinic from 2003-2011 in Sanford, NC, was on the board of the Lee County United Way from 1999-2014, and was active in the Moore County United Way campaign of 2016. He also served on the Sanford Rotary board and served as board president for the Saint Luke United Methodist Church Foundation from 2008-2014.

Mike graduated from Western Carolina University with a BSBA in Corporate Finance and was a two sport athlete in baseball and football. He has served as a youth football and baseball coach for over 15 years and helped bring home a World Series Champ for the Cal Ripken 11U league, As a result of his sports background, he understands the importance of teamwork.

Away from the office

Mike spends his free time with his wife, his three kids, his grandsons, and coaching baseball. He likes to stay active both physically and mentally, whether it’s playing basketball, hiking, or the NY Times crossword.

Focus

Hillary works directly with our valued clients, walking alongside them through each step of account opening, executing various financial requests, and handling every aspect of the complex estate settling process.  Her scope continues to grow, as she works steadfastly to resolve all requests and unique situations that may arise with clients. She works directly with Mike Thomas, Senior Financial Advisor, and Michael Gantt, Financial Advisor and Branch Manager, as well as supports the Pinehurst, NC Branch.  Her proactiveness, experience, and willingness to learn makes her a valuable asset to the team and affords clients a great service experience.

Background and experience

Prior to joining the team, Hillary was a special operations wife and stay-at-home mom to her daughter, Paisley Ann.  Hillary managed her family’s rental homes and volunteered for the U.S. Army’s 2nd Ranger Battalion FRG.

Prior to the birth of her daughter, Hillary worked for Charles Schwab & Co. where she gained a great deal of her financial background.  Prior to stepping into the investment planning industry, Hillary spent several years working for a historic Inn in Remington, VA where she coordinated and facilitated weddings and corporate events as well as managed the Inn and maintained financial records. 

Hillary began her career with Wells Fargo Advisors in October of 2019.  She has since gained a wealth of knowledge, established great relationships with clients, and has worked hard to have a detailed understanding of all processes.  Hillary has also passed her Securities Industry Essentials Exam and is Series 7 registered, Series 66 registered, and Life, Accident and Health Insurance Licensed.

Away from the office

Hillary lives in Whispering Pines with her daughter, Paisley Ann, and Golden Retriever/Labrador mix, Buck.  In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and adventuring the outdoors with her daughter.  She also values quality time with family and friends.
