My earliest finance and economics courses lit the spark for my curiosity about investing. That spark grew brighter as I pursued my Economic Theory degree from American University.
After graduating, I was the senior US Economy reporter for
Indepth Bond News. This subject matter, while dry, helped me gain a deeper understanding of how policy and markets intersect and interact — lessons that influence my investment philosophy to this day.
More than 30 years later, I still wake up invigorated by my career. And my clients see how passionate I am about helping improve their lives financially.
Well-Rounded Guidance
In many ways, I don’t consider myself a financial advisor so much as I do a Swiss army knife for all things wealth: multi-faceted, reliable, useful, and capable of making life easier for those I’m honored to serve.
The truth is, allocating assets is a fraction of what I do. And I feel my PIM
® Portfolio Manager credentials speak to my skills in that area. But I spend much more time discussing, facilitating, coordinating, and implementing other essential investment tactics: estate planning strategies, philanthropy, and gifting among others.
I also serve as a counselor who answers questions like “Should I finance or pay in cash?” and give realistic input when a client says “I want to retire next year.” I’ve even been known to act as a moderator when hard conversations need to happen.
Yes, You Could Call My Investing Approach Old-Fashioned
I prefer the phrase “time-tested.” I’ve learned a lot during the past three-plus decades, but the main lesson is this: I can’t control everything. Sometimes, that requires playing sound defense as, oftentimes, a good defense will likely outlast a good offense, especially long term.
My pragmatic strategies have yielded success over my career, including recognition as a
2025 Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisor, an honor I owe to my clients who inspire me to do right by them. Always.
Outside the Office
After my childhood in St. Louis, Missouri, I spent ten years in Washington, D.C. before moving to Charleston, SC. Today, I divide my time between Coastal South Carolina and the mountains of Western North Carolina with my wife, Heather, and our fur babies. When I need to clear my head, I’ll go for a run, fly my Cessna 182T, or play a round of golf. I'm active with the Rotary Club of Daniel Island and have been a longtime supporter of the Charleston Animal Society and the Yancey County Humane Society.
