Objective

Salus Wealth Management Group’s Tactical Fixed Income Strategy investment objective is to provide clients exposure to Fixed Income asset classes for the purpose of generating risk-appropriate income given various market conditions.

Strategy

The PIM Portfolio Manager seeks to achieve the Tactical Fixed Income Strategy objective by first determining the breakdown of the Fixed Income Universe:

  • US Long Term Corporate and Credit Bonds-Investment Grade
  • US Treasury and Agency-Long
  • US Treasury and Agency-Intermediate & Short
  • US Intermediate Corporate and Credit Bonds-Investment Grade
  • US Short and Ultra-Short Corporate and Credit Bonds-Investment Grade
  • High Yield
  • International Developed Markets Corporate and Sovereign Debt Bonds
  • International Emerging Markets Corporate and Sovereign Debt Bonds
  • Preferred Stock and Convertible Bonds
  • Treasury Inflation Protection Securities (TIPS)
  • Municipal Bonds (taxable accounts only)
  • Senior Loan (Bank Loan) and Floating Rate Securities

Investment Approach

Sector allocations are calculated from a combination of several different internally managed firm models. Each model has equal influence on the overall Strategy and not all sectors are represented in the final portfolio strategy.

Screening Process

ETFs are screened for appropriate fit in each of the designated sectors and only ETFs approved by Wells Fargo Advisors through its vetting process may be considered. Some screening criteria used in the selection process may include and analysis of holdings, current yield and cost underlying benchmark. In addition, ETFs must maintain a positive trend per Dorsey Wright to be held in the Strategy. Qualified and Non-Qualified accounts may differ with the addition of Municipal Bonds.

Sell Discipline

A portfolio screen is conducted at the beginning of each month, every month, unless market conditions dictate otherwise and re-balancing will occur during position changes or if a  Strategy has excess drift.

Strategy

What is the Tactical Tilt Portfolio Strategy? Designed using the research and sector weightings of Dorsey Wright.

  • Based on a relative strength analysis
  • Comes from understanding the forces of supply and demand
    • The same forces that affect prices in the supermarket can also have some effect on prices in the stock market.
    • Stocks, sectors, countries, and asset classes move in and out of favor just like produce in the supermarket.

How Do We Use Relative Strength Analysis?

Asset Class vs. Asset Class Analysis • Sector vs. Sector Analysis • Peer vs. Peer Analysis

Analysis Begins with 6 Broad Asset Classes

  • Fixed Income
  • U.S. Stocks
  • Commodities
  • Foreign Currencies
  • International Stocks
  • Cash and Cash Alternatives

Objective

Salus Wealth Management Group’s Insight Global Equities Strategy is managed with a focus on global equities found in the WFA International Equities and WFA Global Dividend Payers portfolios to seek to deliver superior performance.

Strategy

The PIM Portfolio Manager seeks to achieve the Global Equities Strategy’s objective by constructing a universe of more than 300 stocks that are mostly Large Cap in nature and have a tilt toward paying dividends, though not always.

Investment Approach

Our Insight Global Equities Strategy stocks are selected from companies that are typically headquartered outside of the United States or derive a significant portion of their revenues from outside the United States. The PIM Manager, at their discretion, may include a position outside the original universe of stocks provided it meets other criteria.

Sector Weightings

We start with sector target weightings from the Wells Fargo Investment Institute. Sector weightings can vary plus or minus 3% based on relative strength, technical indicators and screening results.

Screening Process

Portfolio Manager targets 30 positions though the Strategy may go higher or lower. Stocks are ranked by a proprietary point system and must meet a minimum score to be considered. The point system is based on:

  • Number of portfolios the stock is currently found in
  • Dorsey Wright “Relative Strength” score and trend score
  • Growth, Value, and Momentum analytics
  • Number of Buys, Holds, and Sells in analyst universe
  • Fundamental analysis from correspondent and affiliate research providers

Sell Discipline

The following circumstances typically drive our decision to remove, or consider removing, a stock from the Strategy:

  • Stock is in a "negative trend" according to Dorsey Wright research
  • Stock is removed from the universe by Wells Fargo Advisors
  • Stock falls below established price limit (determined when position enters the Strategy)

Objective

Salus-Kruse Wealth Management Group’s Diversified Stock Income Strategy is designed to provide a higher stream of income over time. Our universe is a group of stocks in which we have reasonable confidence that customer demand for their products and services will remain constant in both difficult and favorable economic times. These companies have the potential to consistently increase earnings and dividends. Stock prices also typically move in line with earnings growth. In addition, rising dividends have historically tended to cushion the fall of stock prices in challenging markets. It is important to realize however, that there are no assurances that stock prices will rise or that dividend income will increase.

Strategy

Managed with a focus on companies that the Advisory Services Group believes will provide consistent annual dividend growth over a long-term investment horizon. Our goal is to provide a broad list of high quality, industry leading companies from which an investor can assemble a well-diversified Strategy. Through consistent dividend growth, we seek is to help investors stay ahead of the wealth eroding effects of inflation.

Investment Approach

We construct a well-diversified Strategy that contains stocks from several different market sectors. They are stocks that we believe have the potential to raise their dividends with regularity. Income and growth-oriented equity investors should have the potential to keep up with the rising cost of living. These stocks are selected from research that aligns with the solutions and strategies in the Wells Fargo Investment Institute.

Screening Process

We target to hold 50+ positions though the Strategy may go higher or lower. Stocks are ranked by a proprietary point system and must meet a minimum score to be considered. The point system is based on the following criteria:

  • Financial soundness
  • Offer well-covered dividends
  • Operate in generally mature, defensive businesses
  • Time-tested businesses

Sell Discipline

The following circumstances typically drive the decision to remove, or consider removing, a stock from the Strategy.

  • Dividend at risk or terminated
  • Noncyclical deterioration of fundamentals
  • Superior investment opportunity elsewhere
  • Stock is in a "negative trend" according to Dorsey Wright research
  • Excessive valuation defined as

  • Low dividend to yield relative to history
  • Slowing dividend growth
