Community Engagement

Many of our clients are deeply committed to a vast range of civic and charitable causes – contributing not only money and assets, but also their time and intellectual capital. Their collective generosity ensures a better future for all of us.

While philanthropy may seem as simple as writing a check to an eleemosynary institution, what’s not so simple is pronouncing “eleemosynary.” All kidding aside, major charitable-giving initiatives can be complex in many respects.

It begins by educating family members about both your lifetime and testamentary charitable measures. Sharing your values with children and grandchildren not only may serve to fuel their humanitarian interests, it may foster a greater sense of self-reliance and less sense of entitlement.

Then, of course, there are considerations as to the form the charitable contributions will take – the tax benefits, the level of control associated with the different approaches, and the ability in some cases to split the gift to benefit qualified charities and the donor’s family members. As you can probably tell, there’s a lot to consider.

Please know that we’re here for you to discuss your unique situation and the different approaches to charitable giving that are available to you.

We are pleased to share with you some of the community and philanthropic interests that are special to us:

I have the honor and privilege of working with an exceptional group of people – the staff members, volunteers, and directors of Friends of Recovery Association. FORA for short, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting and collaborating with Oxford Houses in Kansas which provide self-supporting, democratically-operated, and substance-free homes for people recovering from drugs and alcohol.
Since becoming Chairman of the Board of Directors, we’ve added 59 new Oxford Houses across Kansas, and we’re within a stone’s throw of reaching the 200 mark. There are currently 1,684 beds available to help families stay together as they break away from the destructive pattern of addiction and become productive members of their communities.
FORA provides mentoring, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, community liaison work and landlord negotiations. We receive funding through State grants, business grants, and the generosity of individual donors.
As someone who has witnessed first-hand the physical, emotional, and financial toll that addiction inflicts on individuals and their families, I’m proud to be a part of an organization devoted helping people find the road to recovery in a responsible and replicable manner.

I am who I am today because of the people who mentored and supported me during my formative years.

I strive to set a good example – dedicating myself to living a healthy lifestyle and paying-it-forward by giving back to the community through volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Starfish Project, Junior Achievement, and Habitat for Humanity as well as coaching various children’s sports.

My burning desire is to lead an organization dedicated to teaching financial literacy to children since this is not taught in schools. Topics including the importance of investing at a young age, living within your means, and balancing wants versus needs, sets the stage for a successful financial future.

Our clients are top-of-mind and my top priority throughout the day, but when I’m at home and during my personal time, I am an ardent advocate of Pawsitive Tails, a federal 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the Kansas City and Topeka areas.
Pawsitive Tails strives to be something different in the animal adoption community. We help dogs and puppies find new homes by matching the right dog to the right family.
We are not a shelter and we do not have a facility – all the dogs in our program live in loving foster homes. We take dogs into our homes and care for them as if they were our own until they go to their forever homes. The time we spend with them helps us to learn more about each of them which allows us to be able to provide foster applicants with an accurate assessment and the dog’s individual strengths and needs.
Our fosters care for the dog for just a few days, up to a few months or longer. Some have issues that they will need help with, and some have none. We help you to match up a dog that is the perfect fit for what you are able to do, and for your family. Fosters transport their foster dog to vet appointments, help to socialize them, and of course, provide lots of love. We provide any supplies that you need for your foster dog, to make your foster experience a great one!
