A legacy of integrity
Origin
The Katz Wealth Management Group traces its beginnings to Sidney Katz—a man defined by kindness, intellect, and unwavering integrity. Born in Rochester, NY on May 1, 1930, Sidney graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1953 before serving as a naval officer aboard the USS Arequipa in San Francisco. His years in the Navy shaped his lifelong appreciation for discipline, classical literature, and impeccably tailored suits from Hong Kong.
Sidney’s professional journey was as multifaceted as his personality. After earning his CPA, he explored accounting and finance, then ventured into the entertainment industry. In 1969, he became the owner of four Atlanta movie theaters, including the historic Buckhead Theatre—a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit.
But his most defining chapter began in 1982. At age 52, Sidney founded a wealth management practice built entirely from scratch. With little more than determination, cold calls, and genuine human connection, he created a business grounded in respect, dignity, and personal relationships. Clients were never just accounts—they were people he cared for deeply. That ethos remains the foundation of our culture today.
Sidney’s legacy continues through his son, Edward Katz, who brought renewed energy and expertise to the practice. An Atlanta native and graduate of The Lovett School, Edward attended the University of Pennsylvania on a Navy ROTC scholarship and served as a naval officer aboard the USS Wichita in San Francisco, completing his service as a Lieutenant. His path mirrored his father’s in discipline, service, and commitment to others.
Under Edward’s leadership, the firm has grown while remaining true to the principles that defined Sidney’s life: integrity, humility, and a deep respect for every client relationship.
