Philanthropy - Nonprofit Foundations

2020 08.21 iStock Non Profit Web Photo Optimized 400x 300_opt.jpgAs a nonprofit organization, you probably have a list of strategic charitable objectives you intend to accomplish. Near the top of that list – if not priority No. 1 – is your goal to effectively serve and support the people, communities, and causes most important to your mission.

Through the years, I have been fortunate to not only work with individuals and families in helping identify and support their personal philanthropic endeavors, I have also had the pleasure of directly advising charitable institutions and their foundations. Helping these charities bridge today's challenges to creating tomorrow’s opportunities is an honor and privilege that I do not take lightly.

My broadly focused planning process and preparation for nonprofits involves more than simply learning about your immediate needs. Rather, I offer a collaborative experience to help achieve and acquire clarity as to your current organizational reality. Ultimately, together with your assistance, my goal is to leverage the entirety of Wells Fargo Advisors to help your organization climb the ladder of success in fulfilling its mission.

During the planning process, we will also work together to answer the following questions:
  • What are your organization’s guiding principles?
    • Have you effectively communicated your mission to the community you serve?
    • What does your organizational leadership value, internally and externally?
    • How do you connect your values to those of the community?
  • What are your current strategic priorities?
    • What is critically important today?
    • What do you envision for tomorrow?
    • What are personal priorities for your board members?
    • How has your board connected to your community donors and their values?
According to the 2020 Internal Revenue Service Data Book, the nonprofit sector – immediately behind government entities and private businesses – ranks as the third largest sector of our national economy.

In Fiscal Year 2020, the IRS recognized more than 1.9 million organizations, including new determinations, as tax exempt. Almost 1.8 million of these organizations were exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c), with more than 1.4 million qualifying as tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

As Lester Salamon, in his book America’s Nonprofit Sector notes,
“…. of all the components of American society, however, this (the nonprofit sector) is one of the most commonly misunderstood and about which the least is known.”
I have learned firsthand that the divide between a donor’s expectations versus a nonprofit organization’s deliverables are frequently at odds and are indeed often disconnected. I look forward to working with you to benefit your charity by helping broaden the understanding of your mission within our community with a goal of leveraging its time, talent, and treasure to support your cause.

Together we can help change the world for the better!
